Snikt Happens! ‘WOLVERINE’ confirmed for PS5 release in September…
A lot of the superhero attention at the moment is directed towards the upcoming Avengers movies – the first of which is still a good ten months away from release. Before that amalgamation of the multiverse heroes, we’ll have Spider-man experiencing a Brand New Day on 31st July and Sony Pictures chairman and CEO Tom Rothman has confirmed that SONY wants to revitalise its corner of the Spideyverse after the disappointing box-office of films like Morbius and Madame Web. But there’s other platforms that will also be releasing much-anticipated superheroics and SONY hopes for great things on the console front. Long in the making and formally announced last year, SONY will be releasing a Wolverine game based on the iconic X-Men character.
We now have a precise release date for when the game will hit the PS5: 15th September, 2026.
We don’t know a lot about the story that the game will tell but the official release states: “As he searches for answers about his past, Wolverine will do whatever it takes–unleashing brutal claw combat, violent rage, and relentless determination–to cut through the mystery of the man he used to be…”
There have been other games featuring the adamantium-laced mutant including a 2009 tie-in with X-Men Origins: Wolverine film, but this looks to be far superior given the massive leaps in game quality in the last decade. The new game has been created by Insomniac, a company already known for the successful Spider-man games for the same platform.
The confirmed release date is also significant as it places Wolverine a good two months before the previously announced big-hitter Grand Theft Auto 6 – out on 19th November.
Here’s a look at the trailer that SONY first released to show the very R-rated action the game will involve…
